DADOS platform is a web-based application for electronically collecting and managing data related to treatment outcomes. The clean and intuitive interface allows clinics to collect data from their patients within a clinic setting. The application was initially implemented within various clinics and programs at the University Health Network in Canada. Designed to handle prospective clinical research and patient-reported outcomes, the DADOS Platform is developed, maintained and supported by the Electronic Data Capture Program at the Techna Institute.
DADOS is being used by Head and Neck Surgery at UHN to manage the deployment, capture and analysis of surveys. Many believe that paper COA data is reliable, when in fact it often misses core information and can be hard to read due to poor handwriting, which makes it challenging to analyze the data and evaluate the patient’s progress. Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Outcome Measures and Mental Health in Orthopaedic Trauma Patients During Early Recovery, a study published in the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, analyzes some of the psychological and social challenges patients with orthopaedic trauma face, especially post-discharge.
The study co-author Heather K. Vincent, Ph.D., of the UF Health Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Institute, believes the patients “are facing a major life change” and many of those with no history of anxiety or depression experience some sort of psychiatric symptoms and face challenges after their trauma. PROMIS CAT questionnaires integrated into DADOS help clinicians keep track of their patients’ mental health, including for domains such as anxiety, depression, or sleep disturbance.
The North American Spine Society (NASS) has recently launched a diagnosis-based clinical data spine registry that tracks patient care and outcomes. Built on a web-based platform, this tool allows physicians to collect and analyze their data and compare it with the registry. Currently, the system focuses on capturing data from the U.S. patients who are older than 18 years and receive treatment for lumbar spine conditions.
“In order to prove or disprove the effectiveness of spine treatments, the spine field needs to gather evidence,” says Dr. Zoher Ghogawala, NASS Research Council Director. “With its national reach and comprehensive nature, the NASS Spine Registry will help the spine care field make substantial progress on improving quality, developing best practices, and closing the gaps in medical evidence for spine care.” Read the full article to learn how this the spine registry helps to identify approaches to providing optimal care to patients undergoing spine treatments.
